ST. Xaviers School Adipur
St. Xavier's school was started on July 7, 1983 at Udaynagar, IFFCO township Gandhidham. The Simple but significant inauguration by lighting the lamp was done by Mr. M.N. Buch, Chairman K.P.T. in the presence of Mr. Parikh, G.M. IFFCO and Bishop Gregory of Diocese of Rajkot.
The school started with K.G. Classes and Std. I in Quarter No. B-11 & 12 with Sr. Bertilla S.D. as the principle and Fr. Mathew Kalathoor CMI, parish priest of St. Thomas Church as Manager. Classes were shifted to the new school building on july 2, 1984 which was inaugurated by Shri Vallabhbhai Patel, Minister of Gujarat.
Sr. Ancy took charge as principle in March 1984. She laid foundation for good administration. Fr. Savio was the manager for a long period, 1987 to 1997. During this period the contract was terminated causing difficulties and anxieties. With the cooperation of K.P.T. and S.R.C. a plot was alocated in ward III B, Adipur. The efforts of Mr. Nand Hingorani and Nirmalaben Gajwani of S.R.C and parents' committee consistinf of Mr. Thomas Kurian, R.D. Shah, K. M. Mathew, Dhiren Mehta, Mahendra Juneja, Rajubhai Jhaveri, N.Bulchandani, Shailendrasinh Jadeja and Mohan Solanki have to be specially mentioned. The challenge was met boldly by parents,teachers and well well wishers. The foundation stone for the present school was laid by Bishop Gregory on August 17, 1989. Because of the dedication of parents, Fr. George and Sr. Rancy the school started functioning in the new building from June 1, 1990. It Was Formally blessed by Bishop Gregory and inauguraated by Shri. Chimanbhai Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat on June 23, 1990.
Sr. Cyril S.D. was appointed principal in June 1991. She guided the school for 5 years during this period school made fast development. Fr. Paul Kannarkat took Charge as Principal in June 1996. He maintained good discipline and academic excellence. Fr. George Vadakel was transferred to Rajkot after Completing 10 years of dedicated service as Manager. Sr. Anna S.D. has served the school as teacher for 11 years and got the appreciation for regular house visits. From 1997 onwards Fr. Paul assumed the additional duty of Manager. Fr. Davis Paul Manjaly was appointed principal cum Manager on July 10, 1999. The school developed fast under his able leadership and inculcated family spirit in the school. He maintained good public relations.
26th January 2001 is a Black day in the history of the school. It lost 13 students and 1 teacher in the devastating earthquake. There was extensive damage to the school building. II floor consisting of a big hall, laboratory and three classrooms were demolished for safety. The repair and reconstruction was done with the help of K.P.T and generous parents and well wishers. The staff and students overcame the difficulties and trauma of killer earthquake and came back to normalcy very fast. Principal and Staff were involved in relief work for 3 months.
The School promotes the ideal of "Fatherhood of God and Brotherhood of men". There is no discrimination in the name of Caste, Colour or Creed. Spirit of patriotism, religious tolerance, Communal harmony, Concern for the poor are fostered through different programmes. The School aims at high academic excellence and good discipline through spiritual and moral values.
At present there are 3685 students and 142 members on the staff.
